Hello Everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we have had the past few days. The details of this week are below.
6th grade Math: Lessons 74-78. Students will be focusing on coordinate geometry by drawing shapes with the specific points given. They will play a game that requires them to compare fractions by converting them to decimals. They will get to see some liquid measurement tools and how to convert from one unit to another. At the end of the week they will explore quadrilaterals and their different names.
7th grade Math: Students will focus on the powers and roots of fractions, graphing inequalities, right circular cylinders, adding and subtracting integers, and implied ratios. They will explore real right circular cylinders by doing an activity with pringles. They will practice their adding and subtracting of integers by playing a game.
8th grade Math: Students will focus on probability this week. We will practice this by playing a few probability games. We will also revisit factoring, and how to simplify trinomials with common factors. Students will also start to prepare a Pi Day video for the rest of the school to view on Pi Day.
7/8 Science: Students will finish the "soaring straws" lab and analyze results. Students will begin reading and taking notes on the fossil fuels section of the book. This will lead us into a conversation on different energy types and the pros and cons to each one. On Friday, we will have a debate over which is the best energy type to use.
6th Science: Students will review Sections 1 and 2 on volcano parts and types of magma. They will complete a study guide and review the answers in a game. On Wednesday they will take the quiz. They will then start exploring the 3 main types of volcanoes. We will do activity to help understand how a mountain can form near a volcano.
5th Science: Students will explore the parts of the flower and their functions. They will label and color diagrams for the flowers. They will watch videos to help add more information to their notes. Students will then focus on pollination by reading, watching videos and discussing the process. They will review this information and have a quiz on Friday over the parts of the flower and pollination. They will receive a study guide on Wednesday for homework to help them prepare.
