Ash Wednesday

I hope everyone had a chance to attend Ash Wednesday Mass today, and reflect on what this Lent season's goals are. Today's schedule was a bit different because of all school 10am mass, and then a Jr. Honor Society Ceremony with some of the 8th graders. Congrats to the new members!

6th Graders took a math test and did a little silent reading this morning. I allowed them to check out books from the school library and my classroom library, but please encourage them to bring in their own books too!

7th Graders took a math test, but not all finished. Some of them will have to finish in class tomorrow.

6th Graders started in Volcano unit today. We took some notes on the first two pages of the section. The notes were modeled on the whiteboard, and checked at the end of class.
We also did an experiment testing the carbonation levels of warm and cold soda. The warm soda had more fizz/carbonation! This will connect to volcanoes later on in the unit, since they have gases inside them as well.

5th Grade Science: We reviewed the 4 types of plants and watched several Discovery videos on them. Students took notes and shared new information. We also discussed what vascular and nonvascular plants are, and what it means to be vascular. We watched 2 Brainpop videos on this. Then, students were asked to write on a piece of paper what it means to be vascular.  This will be discussed in more detail tomorrow.
